Fall 2025 at 1014: A Season of Talks, Tastes, and Takeaways

September 3, 2025

As we move into a new season, we continue to reflect on the evolving trans-Atlantic relationship—one full of both challenges and opportunities. This fall, our programming leans into that spirit of exploration and connection, with a lineup that invites conversation, curiosity, and community. From diplomacy to design, language to storytelling and food tastings, we continue to create space to come together, learn from one another, and share in new perspectives.

Here’s a look at what’s coming up:

We will kick off our fall program on September 18 with our first-ever sports-focused event, Balancing the Game: The Fine Line of Sports Diplomacy. This panel will explore how the growing field of sports diplomacy fosters international goodwill, cultural exchange, and shared values—viewed through political, economic, and athletic lenses.

Climate and architecture also stay central to our conversations this season. On September 25, we partner with Impact Hustlers for Roadkill: Unveiling the True Cost of Our Toxic Relationship with Cars, a fireside chat exploring how car culture shapes our environment, cities, and daily lives. Then on October 15, we are joined by vonDalwig Architecture to ask what it really means to transform livable into lovable spaces — ones that are not only affordable and functional, but joyful, safe, and sustainable.

Our ongoing series Let’s Talk Democracy, in collaboration with the American Council on Germany and the Goethe-Institut New York, continues with two timely conversations. On October 1, we will look at how new technologies—social media bots, cyberwarfare, and more—are reshaping public trust and democratic resilience. Then on November 18, we will explore how international diplomacy and the rule of law can be strengthened to resist the growing idea that “might makes right.”

Art and storytelling will also take center stage this fall. On November 4, we will host a screening of the acclaimed new German documentary Go Clara Go, with the director present for a post-screening conversation about art, resistance, and political expression.

We will also take a closer look at language—and the ways it shapes identity and connection. On October 21, in collaboration with Pine Street School and German School Manhattan, we will explore bilingualism and its neurological benefits. And as we approach the holiday season, we will join UA RUHR on December 2 for a festive evening inspired by the Grimm Brothers’ Hansel and Gretel, complete with a live reading and a tasting menu that brings the story to life.

As 1014 Fifth Avenue undergoes renovation, we are excited to continue our programming in new venues across the city—thanks to the generosity of our partner organizations.

We are looking forward to a thoughtful, engaging fall—and hope to see you along the way.
