Fall 2026 Events at Our Space for Ideas

September 16, 2026

With critical elections on both sides of the Atlantic, the debate around AI entering a new phase, and a rapidly shifting geopolitical and geo-economic landscape, the questions shaping our societies are becoming increasingly complex. This fall, 1014 brings together voices from across sectors and disciplines again to explore these questions, create space for forward-looking collaboration, and anchor trans-Atlantic perspectives in the broader global context.

Here is a glimpse of what we have in store:

We will kick off our season on September 30 with Building Consensus: How to Successfully Navigate Differences in Democracies, the next installment in the Let’s Talk Democracy series, examining how democracies can navigate polarization and preserve constructive dialogue as electorates fracture.

October continues with a celebration of art and nature at Floyd Bennett Field Public Arts Festival at Jamaica Bay–Rockaway Parks Conservancy, followed by a "gallery conversation" around cultural exchange and creative identity, and a debate about sustainability, consumer choice, and revenue drivers.

We are particularly excited to continue our Next Frontiers exploration this fall with Next Frontiers II - Delivering the Next Frontiers. This time, we turn to the question: How do we get from here to there? Across three immersive and thematically connected Night Labs, we will take a look at how discoveries and innovations become tangible realities—from materials that can compute, adapt, and even come alive, to new frontiers in biology, neuroscience, and human performance.

On October 29, Night Lab I: Materials of Tomorrow explores what happens when materials become computational and eventually living. Then, on November 19, we will consider how biology and technology reshape the boundaries between organism and machine in Night Lab II: Engineered Evolution. And finally, we close our Next Frontiers II series with Night Lab III: Enhanced Performance, where we discuss how data, biology, and technology might redefine the limits of what the body and mind can achieve on December 3.

If you are in Germany this fall, 1014 Deutschland, our sister organization, is co-hosting a wide spectrum of events engaging with society and technology. Join us and the DAI Heidelberg on November 13 and 14 for Lines of Flight: New Visions for a World in Transition, and Between Control & Collaboration: How Do We Want to Live with AI?. We also invite you to participate in Reporting the Machines - (Mis)Understanding Digital Sovereignty, a symposium hosted with Publix Berlin on December 10.

There is much to explore, and we are excited to see you again! Take a look at the full fall event schedule and find the conversations that speak to you.
